Sentio Hall
Professor Steve K. Quevedo - Design Studio: Architecture I
Fall 2021
The Sentio Hall is a theater school designed to connect the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) and the College of Fine Arts in the University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas. This additional school building does not only physically connect the CAPPA and Fine Arts buildings, but also provides a cross-disciplinary connection. Inspired by the DePaul University Theatre School, the Sentio Hall is highlighted with its black box theatre that is illuminated by natural light. Due to the ribbon windows that run along the entire main façade facing the courtyard, the classes, hallways, and study spaces behind these windows become a stage, everything the students in the building do become performances displayed to those in the courtyard. Thus, the architectural design of the Sentio Hall automatically makes the occupants of this building practice the purpose of a theatre, which is to perform and display.
